Hall Thorpe Wood block ‘Marigolds’

Hall Thorpe Wood block ‘Marigolds’

This very popular ‘Marigolds’ wood cut print by  Hall Thorpe, is a  strong image, no fading or foxing with good registration.

It is signed by the artist in pencil in the bottom right hand corner and named Nasturtiums in the other corner.

This one also has ‘Published by Hall Thorpe London Copyright USA 1922 printed subtly along the bottom.

Made in 1922 by John Hall Thorpe this Australian born artist made a series of very English country garden flowers images  which  where very popular.

It has been re -mounted given  an ink line border, with a simple narrow black frame, which is as close to  the original black frames used in the 1920’s.

I have also listed a  ‘Nasturtiums’ that is framed in the same way  and  would look stunning hung together.

Also we have ‘Forget me nots’,  ‘Snowdrops and crocus” and ‘Sweet Peas’

Marigolds has always been the most famous of all his flower still life woodcuts, with its very Art deco colours of orange and green on its striking black background. This is a perfect crisp and strong image.
