Open Gate woodcut print signed in pencil by the artist Hall Thorpe.
John Hall Thorpe was an Australian artist who studied at the Goldsmith College in London during the 1920’s.
He is more famous for his woodcuts of flowers but he did produce a number of country scenes.
This one Open Gate shows a typically English country view with a cart track stretching of into the distance while the hay is being gathered onto carts and in the foreground two rabbits frolic by the open five bar gate.
It is still in its original Rowley Gallery painted frame, Rowley (the paint people) had and still trade from Church street London they where famous for their decorative hand painted furniture and decorative items
