Published by William Heinemann in London in 1898, we are also selling a copy of William Nicholson’s ‘An Almanac of Twelve Sports’.

The book contains thirteen lithographic prints on quality cartridge paper, taken from William Nicholson’s wood blocks, accompanied by Henley’s witty sonnets on each sport.

The characters included are; Bus Driver; Guardsman; Hawker; Beef-Eater; Sandwich-Man; Coster; Lady; Blue Coat Boy; Policeman; News boy; Drum- Major; Flower Girl and Barmaid.

 

Provenance, rubber stamped Dominican Fathers, probably part of the university library.

The paper covered boards are clean corners bumped and chipped, inner hinge split, some foxing to end sheets, but linen outer spine is sound. Some offsetting from plate to text but all plates are clean no damage and could be framed up separately.
