Alexander Ritchie Arts and Crafts Copper Charger Wall Plate

From the work shop of Alexander Ritchie  a good quality Arts and Crafts repousse copper Charger or Wall Plate, decorated with an intricate Celtic knot pattern with the head of a mythical bird or sea serpent cleverly entwined around the charger.

A photograph of this charger can clearly be seen on the wall of he Iona Nunnery gift shop in the book ‘The Celtic Art of Iona’ by Iain McCormick, page number 27 plate 3b top right.

Alexander Ritchie had a metal craft work shop on the island of Iona in the Western isle of Scotland in the early nineteen hundreds.

He as his wife Euphemia took the inspiration’s for their designs from the many Celtic crosses on the holy island.

They where then sold to the many visiting tourist during the Edwardian era.

It is in very good condition, having  not been over polished, no dents or scratches, it has a loop attached to the back for wall display.

It measures  43 cm or 17″ across
