Samplers pair of 19th century embroidered by Elizabeth Wells

Pair of 19th century Samplers both embroidered by Elizabeth Wells of Boston, possibly America or Boston Lincolnshire we are unsure.

They where made 2 years apart, which was probably the time it took to complete the first one, this is dated 1815 and she has also embroidered her age being just twelve.

The condition is better on the earlier one, the second being on a finer linen that has not faired as well.

It is wonderful that they have stayed together all this time and would only sell them as a pair.

Measurements;

Both Frames   45 cm  x  40 cm

Samplers    33 cm   x   31 cm  approx.
