Alexander Ritchie and his wife Euphemia set up their work shop on Iona in 1900, and drew inspiration from the Celtic designs on the stone work found there.
The Celtic design of this pendant cross is taken from the ancient stone crosses that are found on the beautiful Island of Iona in the Hebrides just of the coast of Mull in Scotland.
A monastic order was founded on Iona by Saint Columba many centuries ago and is one of the most important religious centres in western Europe.
